Frequently Asked Questions:
“What is Porchlight hoping to do?”
We hope to model Jesus’ hospitality in the way we serve each other, care for culture, and gather around the good, true, and beautiful. Our long-term mission is to inspire arts partnership that can, in turn, support artists in a radically generous way.
“What is a Porchlight event, exactly?”
We hope to reorient the live music experience around community, hospitality, and connection. Let’s breathe life into our backyards, garages, living rooms, local parks, churches, or whatever nook we can secure! Though smaller, these are true concerts, held in alternative spaces, hosted by a private (not corporate) hosts.
“Is this network only for live music?”
For now, we’re focusing on live music gatherings, but we’re already making plans to expand into gatherings around film, visual art, literature, and more.
"What is Renew the Arts?"
Renew the Arts is the nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that operates the Porchlight art + hospitality network and provides an array of free resources to guide those looking to best support Christian artists through arts partnership.
“What kind of artists do you host?”
As things stand now, the majority of our artists are music artists, spanning a variety of genres. You’ll notice a few artists fall outside of the music realm and our goal is to continue broadening the mediums we showcase over time.
“What are the fees associated with becoming a Porchlight host?"
There are no fees.
“What are the fees associated with being a Porchlight artist? "
There are no fees. Artists receive 100% of the financial support at Porchlight concerts.
“What is expected of hosts?”
As a Porchlight host, you would be expected, at minimum, to provide: an area that can host at least 20 people, a flat place to act as a stage, one electrical outlet, and a willingness to invite friends, family, and neighbors over. Hosts begin where they are and with what they have. Sign up as a host today.
“Are there expenses related to hosting?”
Most shows are at no cost to the host (besides the hospitality-related costs, such as snacks and drinks). From time to time, a show may require a guarantee, but that will always be communicated ahead of time, letting you decide on a case-by-case basis.
“Do I need special audio equipment?”
No. Most musicians can bring their own audio equipment. Some hosts, however, do invest in an audio system, and that is certainly welcome.
